In the Face of Uncertainty

Uncertainty is extremely difficult for us human beings. We want to know what is going to happen. We want to know what to expect. We want to know when it will all be over.

What it boils down to: we want the illusion of control.

As much as we might, at times, feel in a rut, we are creatures of habit. We like our personal rituals, our routines, our familiar and well-trod paths through our daily lives. A certain amount of sameness and familiarity is comforting. We like the assurance of predictability.

The pandemic has imploded all of this.

Our lives are forever altered. The long term implications and impacts won’t be fully realized for years to come, but the immediate changes themselves are stark and dramatic. Our resilience and fortitude will be severely tested. However, this time also offers a tremendous opportunity for creative responses and socially responsible actions.

The truth is we never did nor do we have control over what happens to us. However, we do have complete control over our orientation to what happens. Our response is entirely our choice.

And most importantly, herein lies our freedom.
